    Abstract
This paper aims to analyze the role of these community forest associations based on their past experience by evaluating aspects of forest management that communities can undertake effectively after decentralization and some of the challenges in performing these functions. It concludes with suggesting recommendations on strategies towards improving their effectiveness in forest management.
