Abstract

Farmers lung is caused by mold spores in hay, feed, etc. To prevent the mold from forming, properly and thoroughly dry hay and feed before moving it. Water down the top of siloed materials so the spores won't escape when the top is exposed. Acute disease happens 4 hours after exposure to mold spores but can last two weeks. Repeated exposure can cause chronic farmers lung which is not curable.
