Abstract
This article presents the possibility of organic farming as a means for smallholders in Africa and other developing nations to increase their incomes from agriculture as they help meet the increasing demand in Europe and North America for organic produce. Organic farming can be managed with few purchased inputs, keeping the cost of production low for smallholders. Integrated pest management (IPM) methods can be used as a means of controlling pests that will allow farmers to meet the standards of organic certification for their produce.
