Excessive days open cost Virginia dairymen an estimated $92.21 per cow during the 1978-79 DHI year. That means that during last year the loss for Virginia's 136,000 Grade "A" cows was $12,540,000. The three following pages summarize the analysis conducted on 877 herds completing the 1978-79 DHI year. Page two gives the analysis by DHI Association and pages three and four are by county.en
