Abstract

This case study evaluates the expanding influence of artificial intelligence (AI) within social science research activities. The Horizon Research Collective functions as an interdisciplinary unit which utilizes AI-powered tools including natural language processing to study climate change public discourse. Through this project AI demonstrates its ability to detect social behavioral trends at scale yet reveals essential problems which stem from biased training data alongside cultural misinterpretations and minority voice exclusion. The growing media and policymaker focus on this study generates ethical questions regarding proper representation and truthful usage as well as appropriate applications. This example challenges the field to evaluate whether artificial intelligence enhances or diminishes basic social science concepts like human-oriented research and contextual analysis and critical thinking abilities.
