Networking knowledge in the sustainable agriculture movement: Some implications of the gender dimension

Abstract

This article explores the diverse, local knowledge of women farmers in a small farming community in Wisconsin where they have formed a sustainable farming network to exchange ideas and practices. Research has shown that different, gendered experiences create multiple knowledges and perspectives. Using personal observations and in-depth interviews, the author describes and analyzes the activities of a local sustainable agriculture movement of women in a small town in Wisconsin.The author concludes with and emphasizes the importance of local knowledge in creating social movements towards sustainable agriculture.
