Abstract

Presentation of a case study of the consequences of the creation of a national reserve within a traditional transhumant route in Niger. As a result, the normal transhumant route was disturbed and grazing with its attendent damage to the resource continued. The solution was a participatory decision to limit different groups to specific areas outside the reserve and jointly enforce grazing prohibitions.
