Abstract
This project involves the La Esperanza Hydropower Project (downstream water user) and the Monteverde Conservation League, a NGO that owns most of the watershed. In order to ensure the preservation of the forest cover, the utility company is willing to pay up to US$ 10/ha/yr for that conservation. They have entered into a long term contract (99 years) which covers 88 percent of the watershed.
