Recognizing an absence of scientific literature regarding biodiversity in the Andean highlands, this seventh chapter discusses flora and fauna and the biological processes through which different species interact with their environment. Biodiversity has been significantly impacted by trends of deforestation in favor of increased grassland. Specifically, this has resulted in the extinction of some native plant species and crowed mammal and amphibian populations.en
