The authors used a participatory approach in Claveria, Northern Mindanao, Philippines, to develop agroforestry practices and institutions for conservation farming that will ensure food security, alleviate poverty, and protect the environment. One of these methods is contour strip farming that allows natural vegetation to regrow in strips and slows soil erosion. The Landcare movement is farmer led and promotes the sharing of knowledge about sustainable and profitable agriculture in the Philippines.en
