Resistance of steel- and wood- pole foundations to uplifting and overturning forces

Concrete backfill was the only treatment that approached complete stability. Steel poles resisted overturning better than did wood poles. Crushed stone resisted overturning better than earth did. Pole depth increases stability at an increasing rate.
