Abstract

The condition of water distribution systems plays a crucial role in a society because of its strong correlation with the community health standards and the potential for future economic growth. Aging, deteriorating water systems have long been recognized as a critical national problem. Pipes have become heavily turberculated, losing strength because of corrosion and under sizing, thus they are unable to carry discharge at required pressure heads. Furthermore, increasing demands continually place additional burdens on these pipes. These problems directly contribute to the replacement/rehabilitation costs, elevated storage tank costs, and increased pumping costs.
