A local area network & wide area network design

As personal computers become more powerful, the processing power that was once provided by the traditional mainframe host computer environment is being transition to the desktop and allowing office automation to function more easily. This distributed environment is causing a need for advanced communications between computing devices, from office to office and building to building. The communications technology that is advancing to meet this need is the Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) technology.
