Abstract

The basic task of this research was to identify informal, decentralised channels for management of common property resources (CPRs) and intra-pastoral and farmer-pastoralist conflicts. Farmers, pastoralists and staff/officials of formal and informal institutions concerned with conflict management and resolution in Zamfara State provided data for the analysis. The study used a questionnaire survey and participatory techniques that attempted to bring together all major stakeholders concerned with the aforementioned conflicts to discuss issues relating to the conflicts, share ideas and propose mechanisms for arresting the incessant disputes. This study, which was principally descriptive in nature, employed also some statistical tools to reach some of its conclusions.
