Abstract
This article assesses the recent successes in bringing global attention to mountain issues and evaluates the shortcomings of the political level progress. The authors describes the need for indigenous people to be given a voice in planning solutions for sustainable mountain development and suggests the potential for mountain-to-mountain initiatives to build connections and collaboration between mountain communities globally.
