Abstract

This article draws an innovative connection between Actor Network Theory (ANT) and the study of geography. Though often thought to oppose one another because of ANT's fluid conceptualization of space, Murdoch uses ANT to illustrate how space can be made relative, even from the perspective of a geographer. Within this context, Murdoch draws his own hypotheses on "spaces of prescription" and "spaces of negotiation" as the elements of formality and flexibility vital to the processes of any network.
