Abstract

The mechanical quality factor and the resonant magnetoelectric (ME) response of multi-push-pull mode Metglas/interdigitated (ID)-electrode/Pb(Zr,Ti)O-3 (PZT) ME resonators have been studied as a function of ID-electrode geometry for both sandwich and bimorph configurations. The results show that the mechanical quality factor of the PZT core composite and the effective mechanical quality factor of the ME resonator are increased with increasing ID-electrode spacing. The sandwich resonator was found to exhibit a higher effective mechanical quality factor than the bimorph one. (C) 2013 American Institute of Physics. [http://dx.doi.org/10.1063/1.4798300]
