Abstract
This article reports on the progress of public research and development of 21 genetically modified food crops in the countries of Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, and presents policy, institutional, and regulatory suggestions that would facilitate the cultivation of GM crops by smallholder farmers in these countries.
