Abstract

Approximately 75,000 ha of the Gola Forest block will be placed under a conservation concession in Sierra Leone under a deal with the Conservation Society of Sierra Leone and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. This 25-year agreement would protect a biodiversity hotspot which features a plethora of mammal species. The current agreement replaces timber revenues, invests in the community, and provides conservation management, with the future goal of turning the area into a national park.
