The destruction of the Amazon's forest resources continues to undermine the basis for future resource development in a region which has immense possibilities. Recognizing that unsustainable and destructive land uses occur in specific socio-economic contexts and at different spatial scales, effective solutions require multiple approaches. The fundamental principle underlying all of these approaches is that sustainable land use practices must be market-driven and deliver tangible benefits to those agents.en
