This article explains the ethnoecological model or KCP complex. The KCP model integrates major domains used for understanding natural resource use and allocation: symbolic (Kosmos), cognitive (Corpus), and management (Praxis). Because the analysis addresses global, regional and local scales, Barrera-Bassols et al. were able to conclude that there was cross-culturally recognized criteria for KCP developed by indigenous communities regardless of location. The article specifically stresses the need to take local "cosmovision" approaches and results of interviews to gather local knowledge into account for planning and implementation of development programs in rural, agriculture-based areas.en
