Abstract

Study summary of USAID involvement over the past 25 years in forest conservation and management in the countries of Burundi, the Gambia, Guinea, Rwanda, Senegal, Uganda, Indonesia, Nepal, the Philippines, and Guatemala. USAID's forest management and conservation efforts have focused on three key areas: management and preservation of forests as integral parts of the overall landscape, long-term sustainability of forest-based livelihoods, and decentralization of forest governance to the local level to provide more efficient stewardship of forest resources.
