Abstract
Are you interested in participating in a hackathon? Maybe you aren’t sure exactly what it would entail, or if it would be beneficial to your growth. Sahithi Sarva, Marketing Director of HackViolet, discusses how hackathons can benefit your personal and professional growth and how HackViolet is encouraging a more inclusive environment in the tech space at VT. Are you in Civil Engineering or interested in learning about one of the leading design teams at Virginia Tech? Annabell Koehler talks about her experience on Concrete Canoe, and the team’s journey to a very impressive showing at their national competition. Are you currently in Physics one or two and want to boost your productivity, understanding, and grades? Garrison Underwood talks about useful study tips and tricks to help you ace your next test. But keep in mind, these tips will work for pretty much any STEM class, not just physics. While many seek internships as a way to boost their status in the eyes of recruiters, a portfolio of personal engineering projects can have a similar effect, while also allowing you to use your skills to solve your own problems. John Cabrera talks about his lessons from his own personal project, which bridged the gap between two of his passions: martial arts and engineering. Conferences can be a fantastic way to connect with others in your discipline and learn more about the cutting edge of tech in your field. Peter Do talks about his experiences at the Tapia conference, which celebrated diversity in computing and taught him key insights in his field.
