Abstract

Discusses the life cycle of the Fall Cankerworm (Alsophila pometaria), and its damage to broadleaf trees. Usually damage to foliage is not harmful to trees, but this damage combined with other stressors such as drought, disease, or damage from other species of insects, can cause trees to die. Insecticides can be used if necessary, and another method known as tree banding can prevent the wingless females from climbing up trees and laying eggs.
