This section of the "Agriculture at a Crossroads Synthesis Report" focuses on women in agriculture and the need for gender equity in agricultural knowledge, science, and technology (AKST). The authors discuss the changes occurring in the gender division of farm activities all over the world, as well as the challenges women face in terms of access and rights to land, inadequate infrastructure in rural areas, access to education and information, environmental change, and health and malnutrition. The authors also address the policies and actions necessary to increase the involvement of women in AKST, including strengthening institutions and organizations, prioritizing and improving women's access to information and services, and establishing methods of evaluation of progress.en
