A fifteen day (14-28 August 1990) survey and examination of sites in the pastoral zone of Niger was conducted in order to determine their development potential, given the prevailing ecological (including climatological, topographical, hydrogeological, floristic, faunistic) and sociological (including cultural, economic and demographic) regimens in which they are found and operate. Inclusion of a site in the reconnaissance was determined by: 1) a prior perceived potential on the part of one or more members of the six-person party; or 2) the proximity of sites to previous and ongoing interventions.en
