- Conservation agriculture in South AsiaGupta, R.; Sayre, K. (Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University Press, 2007)Rice-wheat systems are the staple food crops of South Asia. However, evidence has shown that the continuous rice-wheat systems are exhausting the natural resource base. This article aims to explore technologies that are more cost effective for farmers and enhance sustainability. Conservation agriculture is one of those technologies that can reduce production costs, increase profitability and more efficiently use natural resources.
- Evaluation of precision land leveling and double zero-till systems in the rice-wheat rotation: Water use, productivity, profitability and soil physical propertiesJat, M. L.; Gathala, Mahesh K.; Ladha, J. K.; Saharawat, Y. S.; Jat, A. S.; Kumar, V.; Sharma, S. K.; Kumar, V.; Gupta, R. (2009)This paper examines the interaction between agricultural technologies for conservation and for land leveling through the use of laser technology. The article reports on the results of a two year field study, finding that when applied in the conservation agriculture system, laser or precision land leveling leads to increased water retention in the soil.
