The CVBs across California have been scrambling to maintain business and have had to beg clients to not cancel their meetings. Every month that California is closed to the travel and tourism industries, $4.1 billion is lost. The travel industry sent a letter, representing over 130 businesses, requesting Newsome to release clearer standards to get their teams back to work and generating revenue.

San Antonio is currently the United States' seventh largest city and relies heavily on tourism to generate revenue. Anderson will bring his industry relationships with Canada, China, and the Middle East to Visit San Antonio. Additionally, Anderson is excited to assist with creating new jobs for the city and propelling Visit San Antonio into their post-pandemic era.

Shapiro to discuss his work as a writer, the social sciences, and the inspiration he draws from aesthetic theory, cinema, and the everyday. Mike is a Professor in the Political Science Department at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. Among his most recent books are Cinematic Geopolitics (2009), The Time of the City: Politics, philosophy and genre (2010), Studies in Trans-disciplinary Method: After the Aesthetic Turn (2012), War Crimes: Atrocity, and Justice (2015), Politics and Time: Documenting the Event (2016), and The Political Sublime (2018). The keynote address for the ASPECT conference included a piece from this latest work, and can be accessed on YouTube: “When the Earth Moves: Towards a Political Sublime.”

There are six Hilton properties that currently offer Encore's Presenting Stages, which include broadcasting and production studies. Hilton will add at least seven domestic and international Presenting Stages by the end of 2021.

The COVID Relief Now Coalition, roughly 150 hospitality organizations, have banded together to urge congress to set politics aside and agree on a bill for the further deligation of CARES Act funds. Although Hotel Industry recovery in Asia continues to show progress, industry experts are concerned U.S. hotels will not survive the winter months without furture assistance and aid from Congress.

(NorthStar Meetings Group, 2021-03-10)Hyatt has announced the partnership with VeriFLY+Stay to roll out mobile health passports for attendees who are attendee Hyatt based meetings. The announcement has come at a time when industry leaders recognize the need of a cohesive message surrounding COVID-19 restrictions and implementations at meetings. The health passport will make it easy for planners to track the health status of their attendees without having to ask difficult questions surrounding vaccinations and political beliefs.
- The Latest CDC Guidelines for EventsSchoening, Elise; Shapiro, Michael J. (Northstar Meetings Group, 2021-02-01)The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) has announced new guidelines meeting planners must follow in regards to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mask mandates are sweeping the nation with the Biden Administration's recent Executive Order and the CDC is requiring international travelers to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test upon returning to the United States. The CDC's recommendations remain the same regarding social distancing and the emphasis to follow state and local mandates remain. The CDC has also published an event ready checklist for planners are they continue to navigate their way around the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Loews and Omni Form Cross-Selling PartnershipShapiro, Michael J. (Northstar Meetings Group, 2021-03-02)Loews Hotels & Co. and Omni Hotels & Resorts have begun a cross-market and cross-sell partnership. Their loyalty customers will now both be offered loyalty options at either Omni or Loes hotels in regions they do not directly compete. Omni and Loews Presidents agreed this will broadened their portfolios as the United States and world continue to recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Marriott Foundation Endowment Will Establish Hospitality Program at Howard UniversityShapiro, Michael J. (Northstar Meetings Group, 2021-03-24)The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation is granting a $20 million endowment to Howard University in Washington, D.C. to establish the Marriott-Sorenson Center for Hospitality Leadership. This comes following the passing of Marriott's President & CEO, Arne Sorenson, who was a champion of diversity throughout the hospitality industry. Marriott also announced it will donate $1 million towards the newly founded Arne M. Sorenson Hospitality Fund. The Marriott Family Foundation will collaborate with Howard University to create a world-class program focusing on creating access to top hospitality executives and industry leaders.
- NYC's Roosevelt Hotel Latest to Close Due to COVID-19Schoening, Elise; Shapiro, Michael J. (Northstar Meetings Group, 2020-10-13)The almost 100 year old Roosevelt Hotel in New York City is among one of the many hotels that will shut it's doors for good due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This comes at a time were industry leaders are pleading with Congress to put politics aside and make a decision on relief for industry employees who are desperately in need. It is predicted the industry will not return to January 2020 levels until middle to late 2023.
- PCMA To Acquire the Corporate Event Marketing AssociationShapiro, Michael J. CEOs of both associations are hopeful this pairing will expand network connections and educational opportunities for members. Visit Omaha will "Rent for Recovery" in up to 52 spaces over the course of this next year. The idea of "Rent for Recovery" will be for Visit Omaha to use their money to help their partners, while providing spaces to continue getting work done. Locations include hotels, attractions, and local restaurants.
