In response to the tragic events on the Virginia Tech campus on Monday, April 16, 2007, the President established the Security Infrastructure Working Group. The group was charged with examining the university’s existing security systems and recommending changes that would enhance the university’s ability to respond quickly and effectively in situations where the safety of the campus community is jeopardized. The group was also directed to identify strategies that might decrease the probability of such situations occurring. The group was asked to not only consider technological aspects of the issue, but also the behavior of individuals with regard to campus security.en
