Interdisciplinary Curriculum Development for Digital Library Education

Abstract

This presentation, which was given at ICADL 2006 in Kyoto, Japan, provides an overview of the activities of the Digital Libraries Curriculum Development project, a collaborative effort between faculty and students from Virginia Tech's Department of Computer Science and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Library and Information Science. This presentation addresses the development of a digital library curriculum that incorporates content from various disciplines and covers the challenges of organizing digital library topics into logical groupings, preparing educational resources, and dealing with copyright. The presentation also covers the 5S framework, course module and syllabus development, international collaboration, and the outline of a digital library development textbook.
