Abstract

The year 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote. This exhibition is based on a project for the class "Performing History: Women and the Vote," a hands-on course incorporating history, civics, and performance. Using primary and secondary source material, we explored the women’s suffrage movement in the United States. The project became the culmination of months of hard work by students from Radford University and Virginia Tech, who have explored the socio-political and cultural impact of the women’s suffrage movement in the United States. The stories shared are each student’s own imagining of one specific moment in the life of a historical figure connected to the movement.
