Geographies of Digital Wasting

Abstract

This exhibit tells the story of the global processes of digital wasting with the aim of informing policy and practices to combat the climate injustices associated with e-waste. "Geographies of Digital Wasting" threads together four sites spread across the globe, each sitting at distinct points in the digital supply chain, and illustrates how waste comes to be differentially defined, contested, operationalized, and resisted across these sites. The exhibition is an expansive, iterative collaboration that includes this growing website and a forthcoming book project, but it began as a multimodal exhibition that first ran in the Forum of the Annenberg School for Communication in Philadelphia from October 16-27, 2023. This exhibit is currently traveling and always looking for new exhibition opportunities. As of April, 2024, it is displayed in the Newman Library at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
