Play to Make: Xenophobia Project

Abstract

This installation was a project for the ART 1114 Play to Make course in Fall 2019. Students were given a final project to explore a theme of their choice. The students’ statement of intention is as follows: “Our theme was xenophobia. We want this project to explore how people’s identities have been celebrated or alienated. We came to a realization that many immigrants within our country hide or ignore their culture to assimilate into American culture. At the same time, many people feel restricted by their heritage and do not want to limit themselves to being in just one cultural group. Our goal is to use the stories we have collected to highlight the diverse range of people on our campus.”
