Abstract

The purpose of this article is to incorporate information management principles to improve the effectiveness of hospitality and tourism crisis planning and management. Collaborative information management systems can enhance the preparedness and handling of emergencies in the sector. They encourage comprehensive contingency readiness, given the nature of emergencies, which needs intensive management by training and exercises. Preparing for all threats on a one-handed basis is virtually impossible for any organization, particularly those of small and medium scale. To face this challenge, hospitality and tourism organizations should be encouraged to participate in common platforms of knowledge by contributing best practice experiences and to share distributed knowledge for better crisis preparedness and responses
