Abstract

Description

Welcome to the Pandemic Prediction and Prevention Destination Area (PPP DA) exhibit — Virginia Tech’s bold, transdisciplinary effort to build a future where we can accurately foresee pandemics and proactively minimize their impact. This exhibit invites visitors to explore how scientists, engineers, clinicians, humanists, and communities work together to understand how viruses emerge, spread, and can ultimately be stopped. At the heart of the PPP DA is a mission to uncover the genetic, molecular, cellular, and chemical rules that shape virus–host interactions, using both cutting‐edge technology and community‐informed, ethically grounded research practices. Through interactive games, hands-on research tools, and profiles of the researchers advancing this work, you’ll experience how pandemic science blends machine learning, experimental biology, regenerative medicine, environmental monitoring, and public communication into a united effort to protect global health. The PPP DA also emphasizes the importance of trust, collaboration, and public engagement, recognizing that scientific discovery must move hand‐in‐hand with clear communication and community‐guided decision‐making. By highlighting real field and lab equipment and the people behind the science, this exhibit showcases how Virginia Tech is building a nationally recognized center focused on predicting the emergence of future viral pandemics and controlling them — and training the next generation of leaders who will help safeguard communities around the world.
