Virginia Tech in China

This Virginia Tech Education Abroad program brings students to the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in Hefei, Anhui Province, China, for six weeks of intensive Mandarin Chinese study and internships. Led by VT faculty, instruction in Mandarin Chinese and Chinese Culture is provided by Chinese professors five days per week. Internships are arranged during the last week of the course at Chinese companies chosen to match each individual student's interests. In addition to these components, students are guided on five weekend excursions to local and national UNESCO sites such as the Shanghai People's Square, Yellow mountain (Mount Huangshan), Ancient Villages in Southern Anhui, the Great Wall and the Forbidden City in Beijing, The Temple of Confucius in Nanjing, and the Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai's tomb in Ma'An Shan overlooking the Yangtze River. Students earn three credits in Mandarin Chinese language and three culture elective credits in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, and one credit in the Department of History for a lecture course on The History of Science in China, for a total of seven credits. The program is open to all Virginia Tech students.
