Group formation and dispersal in the German cockroach, Blattella germanica (L.) (Dictyoptera : Blattellidae)
The reproductive state and density of the females in a harborage appears to have a bearing on the behavior of the components of that population. This work indicates the
presence of a remarkable system of communication, presumably chemical. The differential production of aggregation and dispersion substances seems to be an effective method of maintaining the integrity of a group under favorable conditions.
