A furniture factory

Abstract

This study, aside from its purely academic merits, provides the author with an opportunity to explore the criteria for planning an industrial facility, generally, and a furniture factory, specifically. The thesis responds to a need for a fresh reassessment of criteria leading to the design of a furniture factory. To this end, the primary purpose of the thesis is. an orderly exploration of those factors, via the design of a hypothetical, but realistic furniture manufacturing facility. The objectives of the thesis are: 1) to review and list the criteria leading to the design of a furniture factory; 2) to develop a raw process layout for a specific line of furniture as a basis for a furniture factory plan; and 3) to design a furniture factory that responds to its process layouts. The thesis includes: 1) the establishment of a hypothetical company; 2) the selection of a specific feasible location; 3) the examination of pertinent literature, extracting parameters relevant to the planning of a factory; 4) the programming of a raw process layout about a main aisle; and 5) the design of a functional and attractive furniture manufacturing facility
