This thesis consists of an investigation of a deposit of Hudson River clay from the Terry Brick Corp. of Kingston, N.Y., to determine the best possible uses for the clay in the ceramic industry. The effect of blending the Goldrick clay with shale, and the addition of sodium carbonate and chestnut extract as electrolytes in the stiff mud process were investigated. The uses of Goldrick clay as a slip clay to produce a glaze was investigated. Particle size determinations of samples taken from points over the entire clay deposit were made to measure the variability of the particle size distribution. Recommendations were made for improvements in difficulties encountered at the plant.en
