Abstract
As an increasing number of electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) are available on the Internet, there seems to be an increase in concern about how publishers and editors of books and journals view these works, with particular interest in whether open access to ETDs hinder future publishing opportunities. This presentation will focus largely on the 2011 survey of social science and humanities journal editors’ and university press directors’ attitudes toward online theses and dissertations. The 2012 survey of science editors and the 2013 survey of institutions requiring, allowing, or considering ETDs will also be shared. This information should help students and faculty make informed decisions about open access ETDs and what the implications are for publication.
