Abstract
An attempt was made to determine the rare or endangered vertebrates within the bounds of Virginia. Lists of suggested threatened animals were collected from expert sources, and the species were classified in concurrence with the majority opinion or under a classification judged logical. Research was then conducted on each animal considered rare or endangered, and for each a description, range, status, life history, limiting factors, and management recommendations were written. Status classifications were: endangered (1, in all of range, or 2, in Virginia only), rare (1, in all of range or 2, in Virginia only), and status undetermined. Sixty-one animals were classed as rare or endangered; thirty-nine have undetermined status.
