A deer hunter participation simulation model (DEHPAS) was studied to determine its ability to aid deer management decision-making for the Michigan Game Division. A series of validation procedures were used to evaluate the ability of DEHPAS to achieve the design objectives of the simulator. The procedures selected for analysis of the model (i.e., face validity, variable-parameter validity, realism, and empirical validity) were collected from literature discussing validation of simulation models. The results of the analysis relate to each of the several purposes for which DEHPAS was designed. The model seems most beneficial to the game agency when used in the capacity of a learning-training device. A discussion of the Michigan hunter system is provided. The model and documentation of its operation are presented for those wishing to use and/or study the model and its relationships.en
