Abstract
Current emphasis on sustained supersonic and hypersonic cruise has sparked interest in more efficient power plants for this flight regime. Cycle studies have shown that the turbofan engine equipped with a supersonic through-flow fan, capable of accepting supersonic axial flow from the inlet, has the potential to be very efficient at the supersonic cruise condition.
