Abstract

Architecture constantly plays with the tectonics of form through competing forces from the structure and the façade. In the English language we define façade as a false front, whereas façade in architectural language defines the barrier between the outside and the inside. Often the façade blurs the line of truth behind the structure, creating a mask for it. This project explores the direct use of the structure to define the form and the facade through the wrapping of structure, allowing the structure to speak for the form of the building with no interruption. With this continuity between structure and façade, the occupancy of the building becomes highlighted through shadow, allowing expression of internal use to the outside.
